15 Rescue Dogs Find Homes At Equip Exposition

Fifteen lucky pups are settling into their new homes this week just in time for Animal Shelter Appreciation Week, which takes place November 1 to 7. According to the TurfMutt Foundation (OPEI’s environmental stewardship, education arm), the rescue dogs were all from Kentucky Humane Society (KHS). The Equip Exposition trade fair is where the annual national dog adoption event takes place. This gives rescue dogs the opportunity to meet hundreds of people at the show.

” The event was about dogs finding permanent homes,” said Kris Kiser, President, TurfMutt Foundation and OPEI. “… And for those who help create the green spaces America cherishes, Kris Kiser. Bringing home a new pet underscores the importance of what they do every day–get outside, work in it, and enjoy it.”

When Zachary Watson, owner of Site Pros Landscaping, and Alissa Wells stopped by Lucky’s Mutt Madness, they weren’t planning to adopt a dog. They met Kaia, a spaniel-mix, and it was “just happened.” Kaia, a five-year-old lab-mix, is now settling in her new home near Orlando. Snowman, the dog, and Kaia go to work with them. They said, “We haven’t had a puppy in five years and she zooms all over the house!” Jacqui Hubacek was drawn to

Ace. She wanted a dog who could play with her boys Greyson and Ayden. Because Ace was gentle, she was able meet many puppies at the event. Kiser reports that Ace is already proficient at sitting. Her youngest son says every day to her, “You picked a perfect one We love calling the dogs up for adopt during Mutt Madness. However, we have helped many dogs find forever homes.”

Equip Exposition is the largest event for outdoor power equipment, lawn and garden equipment, light construction and landscape equipment industries, and in 2019, it was the 6th largest in the U.S. according to the Gold 100. Equip Exposition, which was formerly known as GIE+EXPO has opened a new office in Louisville. Plans are being made to expand the activities of TurfMutt Foundation. The October 19-21, 2022 trade show will include Mulligan’s Fun Run, a fundraising 5K race to benefit the KHS that will be held in downtown Louisville. The Ariens Company will sponsor this run.

” It’s so rewarding to see our amazing rescue dogs find new homes. Alisa Gray (Vice President of Outreach at KHS) said that some of these dogs have experienced a lot hardship. “We’re thrilled to once again partner with the TurfMutt Foundation, and really looking forward to the 2022 event as well as the new 5K run through Louisville benefiting animal rescue rehabilitation and adoption.”

At the 2019 Lucky’s Mutt Madness the current TurfMutt spokesdog, Mulligan, found her home with Kiser. She now resides in Virginia, and continues to “paw it forward”, inspiring children and their families to take care of and enjoy green spaces.

” Our green space is more important than ever and the “backyarding” trend of more activities, from working outside to socializing outside, is here to stay,” said Kiser. “Dogs are a great way to reconnect to the outdoors.”

During the event, the TurfMutt Foundation donated a $10,000 check to the KHS to support the organization’s work in animal rehabilitation, rescue and adoption.

“The Kentucky Humane Society’s incredible work is something we all should be grateful for.” Kiser said.
